Iran Responds to U.S. Airstrikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan Nuclear Sites

Saturday 21 Jun 2025

Following the U.S. airstrikes early this morning targeting several Iranian nuclear facilities—including the underground Fordow enrichment site—Iranian officials have issued strong responses. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared: "The war has now begun for us."

Strike on Fordow: Air Defense Systems Activated

According to local sources in Qom, Iran’s air defense systems were activated several hours ago in response to the incoming threat. The deputy governor for political and security affairs in Qom confirmed that part of the Fordow nuclear facility was targeted during the enemy’s air raid. He further emphasized that such attacks on sensitive infrastructure deep within Iranian territory mark a dangerous escalation in regional tensions.

RGC Issues Direct Warning: "The War Has Begun"

In its first official reaction, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published a stern message on its official X (formerly Twitter) account:

"The war has now begun for us."

This brief yet forceful statement clearly indicates Iran's view of the strike as the start of a direct military conflict rather than a limited operation.

Here is the English translation of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran's (AEOI) official statement:

Statement of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI):

Following the brutal attacks by the Zionist enemy in recent days, in the early hours of today, Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan were subjected to a savage assault. This aggression, which clearly violates international law—especially the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)—was carried out by the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Unfortunately, this action in blatant violation of international norms occurred under the shadow of indifference—or even complicity—by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The American enemy, through a statement made by the President of the United States on social media, has accepted responsibility for these attacks on sites that are under continuous IAEA monitoring, in accordance with the Safeguards Agreement and the NPT.

The international community is expected to condemn such lawlessness and the "law of the jungle" mentality, and to stand by Iran in its pursuit of its legitimate and recognized rights.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great nation of Iran that despite the malicious conspiracies of the enemies, with the determination of thousands of revolutionary and dedicated scientists and experts, it will not allow the advancement of this national industry—built on the blood of nuclear martyrs—to be halted.

The AEOI has placed all necessary legal and diplomatic measures, including formal international legal action, on its agenda to defend the rights of the honorable Iranian people.

Iran's Precautionary Evacuation of Nuclear Sites

Prior to the attack, Iranian authorities had confirmed the evacuation and fortification of several key nuclear facilities, including Fordow, as part of a preventive security strategy amid rising threats. Nevertheless, the strikes—though targeting relatively emptied infrastructures—carry significant psychological and geopolitical ramifications both regionally and internationally.

Conclusion:

The IRGC has declared the beginning of war.

Iran officially confirmed the U.S. strike on the Fordow nuclear site.

Air defense systems in Qom were activated to intercept incoming threats.

Though some facilities had been evacuated, Iran considers the attack an act of war.
